Cretan Extra Virgin Olive Oil gets Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).

On September 11, 2025, the European Commission approved the addition of “Kriti / Crete” to the register of Protected Geographical Indications (PGI).

Extra virgin olive oil “Kriti” is produced only from olives grown in Crete, with at least 90% coming from the Koroneiki or Tsounati varieties (or a mix of both). Up to 10% may come from other varieties, mainly Throumba.
